School’s out for the summer, but there are still plenty of ways to take action with Students Demand Action!

Contact your US House Representative

We’re fed up with gun violence. Common-sense gun policies on background checks, Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and assault weapons can help prevent shootings and keep our communities, schools, and families safe.

Contact your Representative and urge them to take action on common sense gun safety legislation using this link or by texting FED UP to 644-33. Take further action and share this link with three friends or family members and urge them to send a message to their Representative.

Sign Our Industry Accountability Petition

Guns are the number one killer of kids and teens in America, but the gun industry continues to market their products to us, innovate to make them deadlier, and evade responsibility for the harm they cause.

The gun industry has spent decades creating this killer business, and we’re paying for it with our lives. Sign the Industry Accountability petition to demand that the gun industry step up and take action to save lives. Use the Industry Accountability Social Media Toolkit to talk about Students Demand Action’s industry accountability work and urge your followers to take action by signing the petition.

Call into Tennessee to Impact the Special Session

In response to the horrific mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville and the public outcry to address gun violence across the state, Governor Lee has called for a special session on public safety this August. But we’ll need many voices coming together to make sure that lawmakers work to pass gun safety laws that really work.

The majority of Tennesseans—on both sides of the aisle—support common-sense gun safety laws. Together, constituents can urge lawmakers to put politics aside and support proven policies to protect our kids, friends, and neighbors from gun violence. Join us in calling moderate and conservative voters to help them speak up for gun safety.

At the beginning of each shift, there will be a short training on how to phone bank, and why these calls are so important. This is a great opportunity to try out phone banking before joining a call team or organizing your own phone banking event!

Join the Students Demand Action Calling Team

Phone banking is a core organizing skill, and is a centerpiece of our gun violence prevention work. As a member of our Calling Team, you’ll spend just one hour a week talking to voters across the country and help them connect to their lawmakers and speak up for gun safety.

This summer, we anticipate calling into several states for legislative work and into key states and districts in favor of our key federal priorities. Before your shift each week, you’ll receive a packet with information about the legislation we’re calling for and who we’re calling. This is a great opportunity to stay up-to-date with the most important gun violence prevention work happening across the country and take action on it, even when it’s not in your state or district!

Join the Students Demand Action Text Team

A critical piece of our gun violence prevention organizing is contacting supporters and volunteers from across the country to share information and help them get involved. The Students Demand Action Text Team utilizes a peer to peer texting platform to communicate actions, educate our grassroots base, and welcome new students to the movement.

Host a Flyering Event in Your Community

Raise awareness and spread the call to action for federal gun safety legislation in your community by hosting a flyering event. Invite friends, your Students Demand Action group members, and your peers to work together and make sure your whole community knows how to act. Be creative about where to hang flyers and think about community gathering spaces in the summer. Are there popular coffee shops, parks, malls, farmers markets, or beaches? Every community is different, and you can host multiple events to make sure you hang flyers everywhere!

Submit your flyering event to the Host an Event Form, and the Students Demand Action team will provide your group with copies of flyers and materials for your event!

Reminder: Make sure you take pictures at your event and tag @studentsdemand on Instagram and Twitter for your work to be highlighted on our national social media accounts!

Host a Phone Bank

Upcoming weekend with a rainy forecast? Heatwave rolling through your state? Take advantage of less than ideal weather to hang out with friends indoors and make an impact in the gun violence prevention movement! Throughout the summer we’ll have phone banks available to contact voters across the country for priority legislation. Even 30 minutes to an hour of calling makes a huge difference! Pro tip: order some snacks or pizza and play music in the background while calling!

Submit your phone bank event to the Host an Event Form, and the Students Demand Action team will follow up with phone bank information and a packet explaining who we are calling and why.

Reminder, make sure you take pictures at your event and tag @studentsdemand on Instagram and Twitter for your work to be highlighted on our national social media accounts!
