Get to Know the Students Demand Action Advisory Board: Ade Osadolor

A current freshman at the University of Chicago, Ade decided to join Students Demand Action after constantly seeing the injustices of gun violence in minority communities. She knew that as a Black woman she had to make a change to better our society.  Ade has been part of Students Demand Action since 2018 and has helped organize voter registration booths at her high school. She formed part of a student walkout after the Parkland shooting that helped bring awareness to the gun violence prevention movement while remembering and honoring the lives that were lost that day. This summer, Ade was a leader of the Virtual Field Office in Texas, a volunteer for the text and phone banking team, and she also participated in the summer of actions to register people to vote and bring awareness to this movement. She is excited to continue her work in the gun violence prevention movement and create a meaningful impact in our society.

What do you hope to pursue after you graduate?

I want to be a doctor (more specifically a surgeon), so medical school!

Why is gun violence prevention important to you?

Gun violence is an epidemic that has plagued the world for decades, but it has hit especially hard in the United States. This senseless violence and tragedy can be prevented, and I want to do everything I can to help make our communities and schools safe for everyone.

Why is gun violence prevention important to you?

Gun violence prevention is most important to me because it deeply affects the Black and Latino community, and as Black and Latina woman, I feel responsible to make a change and better this society and improve the lives of every person living in this country.

What are you most proud of working on as a Students Demand Action volunteer?

I’m most proud of helping register to vote over 100,000 people this summer as a leader of the Texas Virtual field office.

What public figure or social justice icon do you most admire and why?

Malcom X. The way he was able to be so well spoken and break all the barriers that were impeding progress is truly amazing and admirable.

If you could only eat one food for a year, what would you pick?

Pad thai

What do you do for self care?

I go out for a walk, do lots of facemasks, read a book, and listen to music.

What motivates you to keep going?

The future of this society and the future that I want to build for the future generations.
